| Q. | FOR WHOM HAVE YOU DONE WORK IN THE PAST? |
| A. | It would be simpler to tell you who TGM has not worked for. We've done repairs and outages for so many of the IPP's, Co-Gens, Pulp & Paper producers and industrial users. More information on our Experience |
| |
| Q. | HOW LONG HAS YOUR COMPANY BEEN IN BUSINESS? |
| A. | Turbine Generator Maintenance, Incorporated (TGM) was founded in 1986 by Tony Collins as a steam turbine and generator maintenance company. In 2000, we expanded to provide combustion turbine and generator maintenance. |
| |
| Q. | DO YOU HAVE TRAINED PEOPLE? |
| A. | We have our own labor force, certified in turbine maintenance procedures that we routinely perform. This team travels with us from project to project. The average steam turbine experience, not just general millwright experience, of a TGM mechanic is about 10 years. More about TGM Craft Labor |
| |
| Q. | DOES TGM HIRE FROM A LABOR POOL OR THROUGH A HIRING HALL? |
| A. | No, we do not "Rent-A-Tech", since we have our own labor force. |
| |
| Q. | DOES TGM SUPPLY QUALITY SUPERVISION? |
| A. |
Yes! TGM, to the best of our knowledge, is the only contractor that maintains its own full time staff of technical directors for turbines and generators. They know their job and they know their men. |
| |
| Q. | HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES TGM EMPLOY? |
| A. | The workload varies, so the number working at any time may vary. TGM routinely keeps about 80 people employed, 30 of whom are management or staff. More on People |
| |
| Q. | HOW IS THE JOB STAFFED/MANNED? |
| A. |
The project is managed by a Technical Director who reports to the customer and to TGM's Vice President of Contract Administration. He supervises a Jobsite Coordinator. The TD also supervises a turbine foreman who assigns the work and manages the crew. If two shifts are required, it is customary to have a Technical Director assigned to both shifts. |
| |
| Q. | WHAT DOES THE PROJECT COORDINATOR DO? |
| A. | The Project Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the tool and material needs of the job as well as handling the administrative chores. He chases down all the required spare parts and materials, so you will not need to spend time on this chore (as is common with most contractors). More on Project Coordinators. |
| |
| Q. | DOES TGM STAY AWAY FROM HIRING SUBCONTRACTORS? |
| A. | Yes! TGM handles most of its work with its own people. Less than 5% is done with subs. Three specific activities are generally subcontracted:
- Blast cleaning is subbed to reliable dependable vendors who share our extreme concern for cleanliness and have the proper equipment.
- Non-destructive testing is subbed to vendors who can supply a level two or above inspector who has specific steam turbine experience.
- Miscellaneous machining jobs are let to shops in the general vicinity of the job site, but the work is always done under the direct supervision of a TGM Technical Director. We have many shops that have. Worked with us for years and are capable of doing good machine work, but none that we would allow to make technical decisions concerning what needs to be done to a turbine part. This includes the OEM shops who also do not maintain a turbine Technical Director on staff.
|
| Q. | WHO SELLS YOUR SERVICE? |
| A. | Members of TGM's outage teams (either a foreman or a Technical Director) will visit a customer to discuss their needs. |
| |
| Q. | DOES TGM NEED AN OEM REP PRESENT OR DESIRE ONE TO BE PRESENT? |
| A. | No. TGM maintains its own staff of competent technical direction and does not require you to furnish additional support. However, the customer is welcome to provide an OEM rep if he chooses, and TGM will be happy to work with them. More information on TGM’s experienced staff |
